This Week The Trend (Issue 57)

This week's picks include a turntable speaker, powerful duster, and tech pouch.

This Week The Trend (Issue 57)
💡
This Week The Trend newsletter consists of me selecting three products worth buying at different price points. Each product is given a Value Score—based on price and function—and then one is crowned the winner at the end. Affiliate links may be used.

How I’d spend $500: Victrola Soundstage

The Victrola Soundstage is a thin, all-encompassing speaker for record players. It sits underneath a turntable, enabling you to place it anywhere in a room without needing bulky bookshelf speakers.

The Soundstage has tech to keep the bass vibrations from affecting the tonearm. Not only can this speaker connect to a record player, but it has Bluetooth, Auracast, optical, and USB-C audio support.

Value Score: Good

Although the Soundstage was built for Victrola's own turntables, it will work with any of them. The sound is good enough to justify its price, but I like that it could be used for a TV or to stream audio from other devices.

How I’d spend $150: Shark Blast Boss

When I first tried the Shark Blast Boss, I thought it was a neat way to dust off a keyboard or other electronics. But it turns out this tool is super helpful for cleaning all kinds of things around the house. Fake plants that are hard to dust? This hand-held blower can do that. It has indoor and outdoor speeds, as well as a boost button for each (up to 190MPH). It can be powerful, but it isn't inherently too strong for more delicate objects.

I don't use the broom attachment much, but for a patio or small porch area, the bristles can help dislodge the caked-on dirt.

Value Score: Fair

The Shark Blast Boss normally retails for $150, but is $20 off right now. That's not necessarily a reason to buy it now, but if you're looking for a duster or blowing tool like this, then now is a good time to jump on it.

How I’d spend $50: Miir Causeway Tech Organizer (1L)

You might know Miir for its water bottles or coffee accessories, but now it's making bags and organizers. The Causeway Tech Organizer looks very similar to the Evergood Civic Pouch, with a flat bottom and diagonal opening. This is great for seeing all the cables and chargers inside.

The difference is that the Civic Pouch is two liters in capacity and the Causeway Tech Organizer is about half the size, which makes it easy to pack and take more places.

Value Score: Fair

As someone who's tested a lot of tech pouches, the Miir Causeway Tech Organizer seems like a fair price—though not amazing. The best pouches are the ones that hold all your stuff and fit in your bags.

The winning pick: Shark Blast Boss

The Victrola Soundstage is the neatest product this week, but the Blast Boss is on sale and will probably have a much wider appeal. I've used it for cleaning out a pellet grill and dusting my office. It's super versatile.

Are you looking for even more picks this week? Here are a few things worth considering.

An expensive pick: Terramaster F4 SSD

The Terramaster F4 SSD is a four-bay network-attached storage enclosure. I've been using the F4 SSD for several weeks. It's a great way to add more storage that can be accessible from anywhere. Plus, the company's onboard operating system has built-in apps for automated backups. The unit itself uses an Intel N95 4-Core, with 8GB of DDR5 RAM and a 5GbE Ethernet port.

The expensive part is the SSDs you'll need to buy separately to put in this enclosure.

Media pick: The Paper (season 2)

The Office spinoff, The Paper, had a huge chip on its shoulder for the first season, but I think it pulled it off admirably. Solely based on this new trailer for the second season, I think the show has a real chance to hit its stride and fully come into its own. The new season debuts on September 9 on Peacock.
