A good power bank can save your phone from fully draining amid long travel days. An even better power bank offers multiple ports, attached cables, and ways to use it. That's why the Nimble SharePower battery is so clever and helpful.

The SharePower is the world's first power bank that can either be a single 10,000mAh backup battery or split into two 5k halves. Each side includes a USB-C port for recharging and a dedicated USB-C port for connecting other devices. You don't need to bring any cables or extra accessories.

In my early testing, I've found it to be practical and useful. I like that both halves can function completely independently. The magnetic connection could be a little stronger between the sides, but that's about the only downside I've encountered.

The cleverness of this split power bank design

The first time I saw the Nimble SharePower, I instantly thought of it like the modern-day sharing of earbuds. Instead of sharing music, however, this product offers the convenience of a battery. It's perfect for families of all kinds, but you might also be able to make a new friend with the SharePower, too.

The Nimble SharePower has a 10,000mAh battery. It can fully recharge an iPad—or nearly. For most phones, the power bank should be able to recharge it between one and two times.

Each side of the power bank has a 5,000mAh capacity. While you might not be able to fill a device with only half of the SharePower, it will still add a good amount of power.

Because each side has a USB-C port and a USB-C connector, you can attach up to two devices to each half. That works for devices that don’t need much power, like AirPods or an Apple Watch, but connecting two phones to a 5K power bank won’t offer much power to either of them.

If you use one side more than the other, when separated, they’ll even out again when reconnected. So, each time you share the power, each person will have an equal amount.

How much battery is left? Each side has a power meter, either in the form of an LED or four dots.

I tried the SharePower in white. It also comes in blue and pink. The pink and blue are Liquid Crystal Editions, which add a ripple texture. Both look much more attractive than the plain white.

The downside of a magnetic power bank

With anything magnetically attached, I think it’s normal to question how secure the pieces stay connected. It’s easy to split the sides when you snap them, like breaking off part of a Kit Kat. Trying to pull them directly apart is harder.

Jingling the SharePower by its hand strap doesn’t instantly separate the pieces. Of course, hard yanks or swirling the power bank around will send the parts flying. With normal use, the magnetic connection should be strong enough to withstand travel and daily circumstances.

Still, because of the magnets, there's always a chance they come apart when you don't want them to.

Is the Nimble SharePower worth buying?

The Nimble SharePower is a clever gadget that could come in handy for parents, siblings, or best friends. If you constantly find yourself bringing multiple power banks along, then this product might solve a lot of headaches of managing cables and batteries.

However, because of the split magnetic connection, the SharePower is a little bigger than some of the cutting-edge 10K power banks. If you're never sharing your power bank with someone else, then this functionality might be wasted.
