This Week The Trend (Issue 40)
This week's picks include a travel hair dryer, table lamp, and minimal charger.
How I’d spend $500: Dyson Supersonic Travel

One of the best hair dryers on the consumer market, but now shrunk down even smaller so you can take it on vacation? That sounds pretty great. Specifically, Dyson says the Supersonic Travel is 32% smaller and 25% lighter. As Dyson continues to shrink down its motors and other components, it benefits its cleaning and haircare divisions.
Price: $300 (link)
Value Score: Poor
No matter how great a blow dryer performs, it still isn't a great value at $300. The nice thing here is that the travel version works with existing attachments. So, that's one way to save a few bucks.
How I’d spend $150: Govee Table Lamp Classic

The Govee Table Lamp Classic is the company's latest portable smart home lamp. The light has a built-in battery, so it can accompany you to your favorite reading chair for a few hours. It's also Matter compatible, so it can connect to any major smart home platform, like Apple, Google, or Alexa. Of course, it can be controlled to dim, change color temperatures, react to music, and create nearly any mood lighting you want.
Price: $64 (link)
Value Score: Good
The Table Lamp Classic is brand new and retails for $80. Right now, Govee has an Amazon coupon that brings the lamp down to $64. At full price, it's still a better deal than the Hue version, but on sale, it's a good buy.
How I’d spend $50: Twelve South PowerBug

Twelve South decided to strip all the cables and complications and combine a wireless iPhone charger and power adapter into one unit. The PowerBug is a 15W Qi 2 wireless charger that you can magnetically stick your phone to. This is great for places like the kitchen or bathroom that might have counter-level outlets. There's also a USB-C port if you do want to charge a device faster, up to 35W.
Price: $40 (link)
Value Score: Fair
The PowerBug has been on sale this week for as low as $35. If you act quickly, you can still get it for $40, or $10 off its full retail price.
The winning pick: Govee Table Lamp Classic
Whether it's on your bedside nightstand or on an end table, the Table Lamp Classic looks like a great addition. Plus, because it's compatible with most smart homes, you can have it turn different colors when someone arrives, leaves, or triggers another device in your home. The price and functionality are all good here.
Are you looking for even more picks this week? Here are a few things worth considering.
An expensive pick: Floyd Cabin

The Floyd Cabin carry-on suitcase is an interesting hybrid between super sleek and classy, but also fun and casual. The polycarbonate shell and telescoping handle are the elegant parts, while the orange interior dividers and the eight skateboard wheels made of 85 duro polyurethane are the fun parts. There's something about the color combination of Vegas green and red wheels that calls to me, but Floyd has a ton of color options, too.
Price: $745 (link)
Media pick: Star City
Star City is a fictional history of the Soviet Union during the space race, in which they were the first to land on the moon. It's also the counter programming to Apple TV's For All Mankind, living in the same timeline, but from a very different perspective. Just from the trailer, it looks a little more serious and doesn't seem like you need to be caught up on the other show to appreciate it. Star City premieres on Apple TV on May 29.
