I didn’t know my iPhone charger needed this feature—but now I can’t live without it

The Mophie 4-in-1 Wireless Charge Stand’s hidden retractable USB-C cable ended up being the feature I used more than anything else.

The Mophie 4-in-1 Wireless Charge Stand has several attractive features, like its Qi2 25W power or its innovative cooling technology. But easily the stand’s best feature is its hidden retractable USB-C cable.

On the back of the Mophie 4-in-1 Stand is a USB-C cable capable of 60 watts of power. That means that it can fast-charge most MacBooks, while also charging an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods.

Even if you’re not using the fourth charging spot for a laptop, I’ve found it to come in handy for other desk and nightstand devices like an e-reader, Apple TV remote, and headphones. This bedside charging dock is pricey, but its retractable cable is nearly indispensable.

The secret to the Mophie 4-in-1 Wireless Charge Stand

The hidden retractable cable is the best feature of the 4-in-1 Wireless Charge Stand, but it’s powered by the 100-watt power adapter included in the box.

This adapter allows the retractable USB-C cable to offer up to 60 watts of power. For reference, the MacBook Neo can handle about 35 watts and the MacBook Air maxes out around 70 watts.

So, the extra cable on the charger is powerful enough for nearly everything you’d have on your nightstand. I charged an Apple TV remote, headphones, Kindle, and my laptop. I was able to recharge the battery of all those devices without interrupting the charging of my iPhone and Apple Watch.

Although I mostly charged my iPhone on the wireless charging spot, I found the retractable useful for my phone too. If my phone was low on battery at night, I would plug it into the cable and still use it while it charged. That’s not something you can really do when it’s stuck to a Qi charger.

Charging an iPhone on Mophie’s latest wireless stand

The Mophie 4-in-1 Wireless Charge Stand features a Qi2 25W charging spot for iPhones—or anything supporting the tech. That means the latest iPhone models can be powered at 25 watts by attaching them to the magnetic charger.

The nice thing is that Mophie has new technology integrated to prevent phones from getting hot while wireless charging. This is passive cooling. There aren’t any fans or spinning pieces inside that make noise.

There are venting holes, and the company has separated some of the heating elements into the base so they’re not right up against the phone. My iPhone 17 Pro was never cold or even cool to the touch, but importantly, it wasn’t hot. I could grab it at any point and stick it in my pocket.

Is the Mophie 4-in-1 Wireless Charge Stand worth buying?

I love the understated, classic design of the Mophie 4-in-1 Wireless Charge Stand. It doesn’t have a ton of personality, but I don’t need my bedside wireless dock to be overly stylish.

Instead of being flashy, the Wireless Charge Stand puts its effort into being powerful. The 60W retractable USB-C cable has been a huge help for keeping my accessories powered, while keeping my nightstand uncluttered.

The Mophie 4-in-1 Wireless Charge Stand’s $180 retail price is among the highest in this product category. It could be overkill for a lot of people. It won’t be a good value for anyone who isn’t constantly searching for an extra power adapter. You should check out the Belkin's 3-in-1 Qi2 25W charging stand.

But for people who have cables cluttering their desk or nightstand, this product will be a revelation.
