Here's why you don't want to cancel Apple TV in January (or February)

Apple TV has new seasons of 'Hijack,' 'Shrinking,' and 'Tehran' all premiering in January, stretching into February.

Here's why you don't want to cancel Apple TV in January (or February)

The price of most streaming services is getting to be costly—especially if you can’t stand the questionable ads some serve. It’s harder to stay subscribed to multiple services constantly. Plus, can anyone even watch all the new stuff each service has coming out all the time? If you’re one of the people who bounce between different services, you’ll probably want to keep Apple TV for January and February.

Apple’s streaming service is starting 2026 with a bang. Among the coming attractions are the third season of its long-delayed spy thriller, Idris Elba’s intense series, and a star-studded grief comedy.

Of course, the episodes trickle out each week, which is how they get you to hang on. But there are more new shows and movies coming in February, beyond just more episodes from January. Whether you end up loving these shows or not, I’ve seen most of them and can vouch that they’re at least worth trying.

Tehran (season 3)

Tehran is about a Mossad agent, Israel’s intelligence agency, who infiltrates Tehran and must now find her way back to the group after going off on her own. The season stars new addition Hugh Laurie, as well as recurring lead Niv Sultan. It debuts on January 9, 2026.

The show brings a sophisticated level of espionage and drama to make it highly entertaining. But beyond those aspects, it offers a fresh perspective that most Westerners don’t often see represented in their shows. You’ll want to go back and watch the other seasons before starting the new one, but as a treat, Glenn Close previously starred in season two. And don’t worry about this upcoming run being the end. Season four is currently in production.

Hijack (season 2)

I loved the gimmick that season one used. Each hour-long episode was an hour of a seven-hour flight to London. It showed the hijacking happening in near real-time. That shtick isn’t quite the same in season two, and this time the hijacking is on an underground train, but the second season is still just as intense and fast-paced as season one was.

Now, if Elba is part of a third hijacking in a third season, he might want to consider some of his life choices. The second season begins on January 14.

Shrinking (season 3)

With Jason Segel and Harrison Ford leading Bill Lawrence's Shrinking, it shouldn’t be a surprise that it perfectly blends comedy and tender, heartfelt moments. And yet, the show manages to go above and beyond to offer up characters that seem authentic in their journey through grief.

The third season introduces some new faces to the show, but those guests should be familiar and instantly recognizable. While there are a lot of good shows on Apple TV, this one is among the best and is worth signing up for the service for. The third season debuts at the end of January on the 28th.

Other stuff to watch in January and February

The second season of Drops of God premieres on January 21. The season will follow the characters trying to “uncover the origin of the world’s greatest wine.” It’s not one I have seen yet, but its first season got high marks.

Eternity, the movie starring Miles Teller and Elizabeth Olsen, is set to debut on the service sometime in February. If you missed it in theaters last year, you can catch it as part of the service soon.

Plus, The Last Thing He Told Me and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will be making their way to Apple TV on February 20 and 27, respectively. Each service has releases coming most months, but January and into February are a legitimate firestorm of new content for Apple.
