Apple is fixing one of the biggest annoyances in Find My location sharing
The popular tracking app is getting new tools that make sharing your location easier to customize.
With Apple unveiling iOS 27 and its other new software, slated to debut in the fall, the company has detailed how its Find My tracking app and service will change.
Right now, you can share your location for one hour, until the end of the day, or indefinitely. These options cover a lot of scenarios, but not all of them. Instead of being locked into certain durations, you’ll be able to set a custom amount of time—minutes, hours, or days.
If you’re not sure how long you want to share your location, you’ll be able to set an end date instead. This could be a perfect solution for group vacations.

If you’ve ever needed to have a little downtime or a little privacy to pick up a gift, then you’ll soon be able to pause sharing your location for specific people until the end of the day.
None of these tweaks radically alter how Find My works, but they do bring some much-needed improvements. I’ve definitely felt some of the sharing limitations.
Apple Watch is getting a revamped Find My app

While the adjustments to sharing durations and the ability to pause sharing will likely be the most important enhancements to Find My, those aren’t the only changes. The Apple Watch is getting a completely new Find My app.
If you’ve never used Find My on your Apple Watch, it might be because the functionality was broken up into three pieces: Find Devices, Find Items, and Find People. Those are going away, and a single Find My app will house all those things, just like on the iPhone.
The Apple Watch app will offer directions to lost items nearby. Precision Finding, the ultra-detailed directional assistance, is available for supported devices like second-generation AirTags, iPhones, and AirPods Pro 3.
The new Apple updates are coming this fall
All of these Find My updates will come with the release of Apple’s new software for the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and more.
The new operating systems include performance optimizations, better Screen Time parental controls, and an overhauled Siri with AI capabilities. There’s also a new feature that can alert you about out-of-stock products. Public betas will be available in July, but the general release should happen with the announcement of the next iPhone.
